Cake smash information

getting the best from your Cake Smash session

Because young babies and children have a limited attention span, we’ll have a quick chat about clothing and options when you arrive, then begin your portrait session soon after.

We’ll shoot quickly when we can… so be prepared for some quick-fire set and clothing changes as we work through your portrait session, which will usually last up to an hour.

Please keep in mind our ultimate aim is to keep baby happy at all costs, so we’ll be working around him or her to get the best expressions possible.

As a parent, your job will be to keep your baby (roughly) where we want him or her, be at hand with any wet wipes in case of dribbles… and help get baby’s attention and smile where necessary.

And enjoy!

A standard cake smash session will take up to an 1hr to complete.

A cake smash mini-session lasts 30 minutes.

Bring at least 2-3 changes of clothing for your baby in colours to match your chosen backdrop(s) so we can offer variety in the photos we take for you. If you have party clothes/party dresses etc, please do bring them along.

If you’d like to include any additional personal props/hats/toys etc that you feel will enhance your photoshoot or help your child feel comfortable, feel free to bring these too and we can discuss their use when you arrive for your portrait session.

To avoid any allergy issues and also you will know which cake your little one prefers, we ask parents to bring a cake. We have a cake stand as shown in the images.

This depends on which session you booked.

For any sessions not including digital images, these must be purchased separately.

If your session does include any digital images or products, this will be fully detailed at the time of booking.

If you have booked a standard session, then we can include a short bubble bath session at the end of your cake smash for an additional £25 if required (please let us know when you email us your backdrop choice).

Bath sessions are not available for mini-sessions.

Even before booking, Karen and Rob were quick at responding and answered any questions in detail to ensure we booked for exactly what we wanted. On arrival they were very friendly and accommodating, which for us who have never had professional photos done nor normally like our pictures taken, made us as a family more relaxed. They were very patient and helpful when explaining poses and overall was a very pleasant experience to be a part of and watch. We left feeling confident our photos would be nothing but perfect and couldn't wait to see them. The turn around from the day of the photos to receiving the final edits wasn't too bad either, and worth the wait. We were blown away by the results, and the 4k video was a bonus. I recently had the pleasure of doing a maternity photoshoot with my family, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience! From start to finish, the entire process was seamless and enjoyable. Karen and Rob were incredibly professional, warm and welcoming, immediately putting us all at ease.

I have been meaning to write this review for a while, but I never had a spare moment! I found Baby Shoots Photography online after a thorough search for baby photographers. This business stood out to me purely because of their reviews as well as having the most professional and gorgeous photos on their instagram account (which you should totally follow!). I was a little anxious at first as I had a previous photographer for all my baby/family photoshoots who we were so loyal too, but unfortunately for us, she undertook a new venture! However, the anxiety quickly disappeared when Karen and Rob took time to listen to what I wanted and reassured me that they would do their absolute best to meet my needs with such patience and kindness.

Karen and Rob did such a wonderful job for us (back in February this year). Karen was so good at setting the scene with variety of warm colours whilst Rob took some beautiful, heart-warming photos. We got newborn photographs done with Rob and Karen, they were really accommodating to fit us in at short notice prior to 2 weeks since birth, as they mentioned the sooner the better for these sort of photos. We came into their home studio and were immediately at ease. They explained the process taking on board some of things we wanted and got to work! Our little one didn't want to sleep initially (although we also loved the awake photos they got), but as a team they worked with her, keeping her calm, then got her to sleep and that's when they stepped up the speed! Between them, they worked well for clothes changes/setting changes keeping baby asleep and it was truly a pleasure to watch professionals at their craft. Cut to receiving to the photos which was around about 2 weeks fully edited, we are delighted with the results! Of course cost may be a consideration for some for such photos but we considered it fair for the quality received. Delighted with the outcome and we would recommend it for newborn photos! We are also aware they do other photos for babies/children and would not hesitate to use them in the future!

It's a family run business and the couple who do the baby photo shoots are absolutely lovely. We used them before as well for our first child and came back to them again for our second. They make you feel comfortable and you know your child is in good hands while they get them ready for different poses. They are very professional, friendly and flexible. They usually turn things around pretty quickly. I highly recommend their services.

I'd highly recommend Karen and Rob having attended for a newborn photoshoot which also featured a family shot with our two other toddlers. Karen and Rob were fantastic at engaging our older children whilst ensuring they got those all important shots which we will cherish as parents for years to come and our children once they are older. I was particularly impressed by how many different shots we managed to get in what seemed like a very short frame of time - they truly are very skilled at what they do and as a customer you could not ask for more when wanting to capture that shortlived, fleeting newborn period.

What can I say - absolutely amazing from start to finish - Rob and Karen made us feel so welcome and comfortable from the moment we stepped in - they are so professional and we literally listened to every word they said and how to stand - pose and what would look great in the photos - my partner went out of her comfort zone trusting what they said would look nice and she is so happy she did the pictures turned out much better than we could imagine - this was our maternity photoshoot and we have booked the newborn shoot also for when our little one is here and cannot wait to go back - 5 starts isn’t enough for Babyshoots

I was bought a baby photoshoot by my friend for my baby shower and it was the best gift i got! Rob and karen were amazing they made me feel so comfortable and they took such great care with my tiny newborn. They have such great ideas to get the best pictures and the pictures came out much better than i ever could of imagined! I would highly recommend using baby shoots photography and im so glad i was gifted this shoot as i now have gorgeous photos to treasure for ever!

We booked the Baby Plan (3 shoots) and chose the maternity, new born and sitter sessions. Neither of us likes having our photos taken but we wanted to make sure we captured this time of our and our baby's life in a unique but personal way and they delivered!
