Newborn Portraits ~ our Standard Session

Up to 3hrs, and a full 25x digital images included for £550

Our standard newborn portraits typically take around 2 hours to complete – but we allow up to 3 hours. This allows plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and capturing a variety of poses.

In turn, this means you won’t need to feel rushed if baby doesn’t sleep well, right away. We prioritize your baby’s comfort and create a calm and welcoming environment in our studio for you to enjoy.

A standard newborn session can also include a few parent/family portraits if you’d like this. In fact, we encourage you to include parents in your newborn photos. These images capturing the first moments of family connection are truly priceless.

As with all our newborn portraits, free use of props and accessories is included in your session fee.

We’ll use our curated collection of super-cute props, blankets, wraps, and accessories to create a unique set of portraits in a range of styles for you.

The resulting gallery of images we create for you will include a wide variety of images, from simple to elaborate… with every one, adorable!

A Newborn Mini-Session lasts up to 1 hour and includes a selection of poses chosen by the studio, plus a set of 10 digital images at no extra charge.

By avoiding some of the more time-consuming and elaborate poses and focusing on mostly swaddled/wrapped newborn portraits, we are able to offer the same incredible quality as our longer sessions to customers who value great quality but don’t need such a wide variety of portrait images.

In this way, we’re able to create an amazing set of gorgeous newborn portraits in the shorter time allotted.

However, this does mean we’re unable to include siblings or parent portraits for a newborn mini-session – so if those are important to you, we recommend booking a standard or À la carte portrait session for your newborn photography instead.

Your à la carte newborn photography session includes Karen and Rob working together to create, edit, and retouch a beautiful selection of newborn portraits for you.

Your session includes free use of our wide selection of newborn photo props, including bowls, baskets, bespoke newborn beds, headbands, blankets, wraps, ties, and bonnets. We’ll use a selection of beautiful props and accessories to style the most beautiful newborn portraits for you.

Our standard newborn session can also include parent portaits, and one older sibling if required.

A standard newborn portrait session usually takes 1-2 hours, but we allow up to 3 hours if your baby needs extra time for feeding & cuddling during your portrait shoot.

Your finished gallery will typically include a minimum of 30 unique images for you to choose from.

Digital images and products are not included for an À la carte portrait session, so these must be purchased separately if choosing this session (click here for pricing).

Download your DIGITAL IMAGES without having to return to the studio!

For many of our portrait sessions, digital images are already included… so if you don’t want to return to the studio for a viewing after your portrait session, these sessions are perfect for you.

If you’ve chosen an À la carte portrait session, you will also have the option to pre-purchase a complete set of digital images. This will include all the portraits from your session. For a standard newborn photography session, this is usually around 30 portraits.

Get a free animated slideshow of your portrait session, set to music.

Buying the complete set of digital images means you’ll also receive a beautiful, complimentary ultra high-resolution slideshow set to music too!

After purchasing, you’ll be able to download your complete set from an online gallery we’ll create for you. Your gallery will also include options to purchase additional frames, prints, canvas, cards, and more, should you wish to.

If you’ve chosen a Newborn Mini Session, this includes 10x digital images anyway – and our Standard Newborn Session has 25x digital images included – so for those sessions, you’ll be able to select your favourites from an online gallery we’ll create for you.

If you prefer, you can return to the studio for a free viewing and ordering session. This allows you to view your gallery and all our sample products in person. Then you can decide which images and products you’d like to buy from us.

This option works best for customers who aren’t sure what they want to buy from us (for example frames, canvas and other wall art).

In either case, we promise you’ll get NO hard sell from us… we’ll just let your gorgeous new baby portraits do the talking since we KNOW you’re going to love them!

Please note: due to the nature of digital images, online galleries are only available for images that have been pre-purchased in digital format.

Frequently asked questions

The perfect age for the best newborn portraits is around 7 to 10 days old – or no later than 2 weeks old if you’re unable to visit sooner.

This is a little different for babies who were born prematurely. If your baby arrives early, please contact us to discuss the best time for your newborn portraits.

In order to maintain the highest quality and speedy turnaround for our customers, we only accept a maximum of 10 standard newborn sessions each month.

For this reason, we recommend booking your newborn portraits while you’re still pregnant if at all possible. this ensures we are able to set aside the time to shoot and edit your images for you.

You don’t need to worry about getting the shoot date exactly right, because we can change that later if needed… but because we are frequently fully booked at short notice, we recommend booking early during your pregnancy.

If your baby is already born we recommend using our online scheduler to book in a date for as soon as possible.

If your baby is already 2 weeks or older, your session may include simpler poses and more dressed or wrapped images… but rest assured, we can still create a set of beautiful baby pictures for you!

This is no problem, so long as you’ve already booked your slot with us.

When we confirm your booking, we’ll include a link so you can reschedule your session if needed, in case baby arrives early, or later than expected.

This means you can be confident of getting the perfect date for your newborn photography.

For premature babies, we usually recommend scheduling your newborn portraits for what would have been their originally expected due date – or when baby is at least 6lb in weight. If unsure, please contact us directly.

Our newborn portrait sessions take place on Monday to Thursday mornings, subject to availability… with pre-booked sessions always taking priority for any available dates.

We can occasionally offer weekend sessions but weekends are subject to very limited availability, and are subject to a weekend premium of £50.

If you need a weekend appointment, please contact us prior to booking to see if we can fit you in.

Our standard newborn portrait sessions usually last around 2 hours. However, we allow up to 3 hours in case your baby needs extra time for comforting or feeding during the portrait shoot.

Newborn mini-sessions take 1 hour.

This will depend on which session type you decide to book with us, so please be sure to read the description for your chosen session carefully.

All newborn sessions include our time and talent to create and retouch a set of beautiful images for you, plus full use of any props and accessories we keep in the studio.

Any sessions that also include images or products, will be clearly stated at the point of booking.

À la carte portrait sessions do not include digital images or products, so these must be purchased separately if booking this type of portrait session.

Yes, a few parent portraits can be added to any standard or À la carte newborn portrait session. In fact, we encourage this where possible, since these can be a lovely keepsake for your baby to have when he or she has grown up!

These sessions can also include and older sibling if required. However, to ensure we achieve the best possible newborn portraits for you, we do not recommend including multiple siblings during newborn portrait sessions.

This is because our experience has shown that including multiple siblings/family members simply takes too much time out of the newborn session… leaving less time for your actual newborn portraits to be taken.

Additionally, having multiple young children in the studio can also be somewhat disruptive for the quiet, relaxed atmosphere that is essential for creating the best newborn portraits for you.

Unfortunately, due to time constraints, newborn mini-sessions do not include family portraits.

If you require family portraits with multiple siblings, we recommend booking a separate family portrait session at a later date after your newborn portraits session.

Yes, of course – although many of our portrait sessions also include digital images anyway. 🙂

All digital sales include high-resolution (full-size and printable) digital images plus a complementary set of web-sized digital copies to match.

If you also want physical, printed products, you can add these at your discretion – but they are not compulsory.

Firstly, double-congratulations!

No, we don’t charge any extra for twins (or even triplets). 🙂

One thing to keep in mind though, is that because twins are often born early, we generally wait until they are at or around what would have been thier expected due date, before photographing them.

Essentially, we want both babies to be happy & healthy, and weighing at least 6lb for thier photoshoot… so we recommend booking your session for around that date. if unsure, please contact us directly prior to booking your newborn portraits with us

I’m afraid we don’t offer newborn portraits at home. We found (many years ago) that it was impossible for us to offer the same high quality images we wanted to create for our customers, when on location. We simply didn’t have enough control over lighting, heating, and other envronmental factors.

Additionally, we use a wide range of props, accessories, and equipment to style and shoot your newborn portraits, and it would be impossible to bring everything we need to a remote location.

Since we’re not prepared to compromise on quality, all our newborn portraits take place in our dedicated studio in Copthorne, West Sussex.

At the studio, we have everything we need to create the very best newborn portraits for you without compromise… so this is the way we work for newborn portraiture.

For all other portrait sessions, such as babies, toddlers and family portraits, we do indeed offer location shoots if required.
