Fine Art portraits information

Getting the best from your Fine Art portraits session

A Fine Art Portraits session is a calm, stylised photoshoot, designed for older children who are able to take direction, and follow simple instructions and posing.

For these sessions, we’ll dispense with any “cheesy smiles” but instead, you can look forward to a set of portraits to really capture the inner beauty of your child.

Although simple in concept, these sessions are carefully arranged, land photographed to create a particular, timeless style of photography, reminiscent of the ‘old master’ style.

The images created during our Fine Art Portrait sessions are perfect for displaying in pride of place on your walls for years to come.

A standard Fine Art Portraits session will usually take up to one hour to complete, and includes both the session itself and an immediate after-shoot viewing so you can select your favourite images from your portrait session.

Please allow up to 2 hours in case you need some additional time to decide which images/products you want to keep or purchase from your session.

Please contact us directly so we can discuss your portrait session in detail, including clothing, styling and colours.

We love suitable props such as:

  • Vintage clothing – muted colours, and lots of texture
  • Hats, berets, scarves
  • Wool, hessian, tweed
  • Braces
  • Shawls, vintage dresses

Think: Peaky Blinder/Vintage!

Additionally, if your child enjoys a particular pastime or hobby (for example, playing the violin or flute) this could also feature in your images.

At this time, our Fine Art Portrait sessions are for a single child only.

It’s not usually necessary to need hair and make-up for a child’s Fine Art Portraits session.

You could consider hair styling for an older child if you want to… but please keep in mind any discussions we’ve had regarding the look and styling of your portrait session.

If your child has longer hair, it can sometimes be helpful if we’re able to switch from ‘hair down’ to hair up’ during the course of your photoshoot.

We’ll aim to create a gallery of around 10-20 images for you to choose from.

After we’ve created your portraits, you’ll be able to view the unedited images right away. This is when you can select your favourite 5 portraits you want us to retouch for you to keep.

This is also the time to order any optional wall art products you want, taking advantage of your special 25% session discount.

In order to minimise disruption and distractions, we do not allow customers to take their own pictures during our portrait sessions.
