Getting the best from your Outdoor portraits session

On the day of the shoot, please ensure everyone is dressed appropriately for the weather and conditions, and any little ones have had a good breakfast, and are well-rested… a tired/hungry child is not a happy child!

Just as with our studio shoots, we recommend planning in advance to colour co-ordinate all clothing with each other.

Our outdoor shoots are generally quite informal and can often be as simple as a family enjoying a lovely walk through the woods – you can even bring the family dog if you want to!

If you’ve chosen an outdoor/location shoot, please be sure to let us know the location meeting details (including postcode or using what3words) in plenty of time prior to the shoot day.

For sesions taking place in the vicinty of our studio, you’ll find our address at the bottom of this page.

A standard outdoor portrait session will usually take around 1hr to complete.

Please allow additional time for walking to/from your vehicle if appropriate, plus some extra time to find the exact spot for your portrait session.

Light colours that stand out from dull backgrounds (particularly if your shoot is in winter or dull weather) can look lovely in your outdoor photos.

However, it’s important that all family members are clothed appropriately for both the weather and the local walking conditions.

For example, if walking in woods, stout shoes/wellies may be in order – we just love to photograph a toddler among the flowers, or jumping in muddy puddles!

Yes, an outdoor portrait session is the perfect opportunity to also include some informal family photos – so be sure to wear something you are happy to be photographed in!

For an outdoor shoot on location, we’ll send any specific addresses/locations directly to you via email.

Your session begins from the time we have arranged to meet… so please be sure to allow sufficient time to get to the specific location agreed (which may be several minutes from a road or car park). Then we can begin your session right away, to avoid losing session time.

If your outdoor portraits are to take place in the vicinity of our home studio area, you’ll find directions to our home studio at the bottom of this web-page.

For a standard maternity session, we aim to create a gallery of around 20 finished images for you to choose from.

For a maternity mini-session, we’ll be creating a gallery of 10 finished images for you.

If you are buying a complete set of digital images after your portrait session, you can do this online without having to visit the studio at all.

If you’re not sure exactly which images or products you want to buy after your photoshoot, we’ll arrange a viewing and ordering session for you so you can make your selections in person.

Please note, that digital images can only be viewed online after purchasing.

Even before booking, Karen and Rob were quick at responding and answered any questions in detail to ensure we booked for exactly what we wanted. On arrival they were very friendly and accommodating, which for us who have never had professional photos done nor normally like our pictures taken, made us as a family more relaxed. They were very patient and helpful when explaining poses and overall was a very pleasant experience to be a part of and watch. We left feeling confident our photos would be nothing but perfect and couldn't wait to see them. The turn around from the day of the photos to receiving the final edits wasn't too bad either, and worth the wait. We were blown away by the results, and the 4k video was a bonus. Magical maternity shoot!

I recently had the pleasure of doing a maternity photoshoot with my family, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience! From start to finish, the entire process was seamless and enjoyable. Karen and Rob were incredibly professional, warm and welcoming, immediately putting us all at ease.

They suggested beautiful poses that highlighted my wife’s pregnancy glow while also capturing the love and excitement of our family. They also knew exactly how to keep the kids engaged, making it fun for everyone involved!

I have been meaning to write this review for a while, but I never had a spare moment! I found Baby Shoots Photography online after a thorough search for baby photographers. This business stood out to me purely because of their reviews as well as having the most professional and gorgeous photos on their instagram account (which you should totally follow!). I was a little anxious at first as I had a previous photographer for all my baby/family photoshoots who we were so loyal too, but unfortunately for us, she undertook a new venture! However, the anxiety quickly disappeared when Karen and Rob took time to listen to what I wanted and reassured me that they would do their absolute best to meet my needs with such patience and kindness.

Karen and Rob did such a wonderful job for us (back in February this year). Karen was so good at setting the scene with variety of warm colours whilst Rob took some beautiful, heart-warming photos. We got newborn photographs done with Rob and Karen, they were really accommodating to fit us in at short notice prior to 2 weeks since birth, as they mentioned the sooner the better for these sort of photos. We came into their home studio and were immediately at ease. They explained the process taking on board some of things we wanted and got to work! Our little one didn't want to sleep initially (although we also loved the awake photos they got), but as a team they worked with her, keeping her calm, then got her to sleep and that's when they stepped up the speed! Between them, they worked well for clothes changes/setting changes keeping baby asleep and it was truly a pleasure to watch professionals at their craft. Cut to receiving to the photos which was around about 2 weeks fully edited, we are delighted with the results! Of course cost may be a consideration for some for such photos but we considered it fair for the quality received. Delighted with the outcome and we would recommend it for newborn photos! We are also aware they do other photos for babies/children and would not hesitate to use them in the future!

Rob and karen were amazing they made me feel so comfortable and they took such great care with my tiny newborn. They have such great ideas to get the best pictures and the pictures came out much better than i ever could of imagined! I would highly recommend using baby shoots photography and im so glad i was gifted this shoot as i now have gorgeous photos to treasure for ever!

We booked the Baby Plan (3 shoots) and chose the maternity, new born and sitter sessions. Neither of us likes having our photos taken but we wanted to make sure we captured this time of our and our baby's life in a unique but personal way and they delivered! From the very start Rob and Karen made us feel comfortable and were very professional. We cannot recommend them highly enough!! We'll definitely be back if/when we want professional photos done, only wish we knew about them before our wedding!
